Chapter 2: Audio

Are we ready to take a look at removing those pesky uhms, ahs and weird mouth clicks? Would you like to learn how to add music to your video? Let’s watch this video from Camtasia as they walk you through editing the system sound, your vocal tracks and add/edit music.

Some key points to remember:

  • Audio is edited in the time line, just like you edited the video clip
  • Click & drag to place the audio where you want it
  • Find uhms and ahs by looking for them in timeline (on the waveform). Once you have found them, position your playhead at the start of the area you want to remove. Drag the red portion of the playhead to the end of the area and then click on the little pair of scissors to remove
  • To adjust the audio volume, click on the audio layer you want to adjust and drag the green line in the middle of the layer up or down to increase or decrease the volume.
  • To adjust the audio for only part of a clip, double click on the audio line where you want the volume to start to change. Double click and drag on the line to where you want the new volume to be. Or you could use the built in audio effect in the menu at the top left side of the screen.
  • If you want to work with the system audio, click on the layer with the system audio, then right click and choose the option to separate the audio and video. This will allow you to make changes to the audio without affecting the video or vice versa.

Now that we have seen how to edit the audio in your video, let’s go and see how to add special effects in the next Chapter.
