Tips

There is a lot of resources out there if you are trying to learn how to use your video editing software.

Below are some tips to improve your next video:

  • Check with the makers of your software. There should be a support or help area and usually, there are a number of articles or tutorials you can walk through.
  • Do your pre-work as it will save you a lot of time and energy.
    • Determine how you are going to use your video. This will help you decide how formal or informal your video will be
    • Create your storyboard for flow and content
    • Create your script. No amount of editing will help if you are stumbling for words during your video
    •  Gather your equipment. A quality mic & camera will go miles for a high quality video
    • Organize your computer for all the files you will need. The original video recording, extra graphics or other media. If you know where the files you need are, it will make editing much faster
  • Practice the 3-2-1 rule.
    • Create 3 copies of everything you create
    • in at least 2 different locations
    • with 1 of those locations physically separate from your other locations
  • When you are ready to edit, close down all other computer programs you don’t need. There is nothing worse than a computer crash in the middle of a large edit!
  • Tell a great story. Humans are hardwired to gravitate to a good story and if your video tells a great story, people will pay attention!
  • KISS – Keep it simple
